Cross-processing means processing a positive film in a
C41 processing solution or the processsing of negative film in an E-6
process. The results are fascinating and can give your images a
surreal look.
Here are the basic steps:
I. SELECT A POSITIVE FILM.
For starters try Kodak Ektachrome 100 Plus
Professional. The colors are vivid and the images are very viewable in
the mainstream viewing public.
2. OVEREXPOSE IT BY AT LEAST ONE STOP.
The more you overexpose, the more extreme the image
becomes. As with any testing bracket your work by 1 f-stop increments.
3. PROCESS POSITIVE FILM IN C-41 CHEMISTRY.
Try push-processing the film by one or two stops. It
often creates interesting results.
4. SELECT A PRINTING PAPER SUITABLE FOR THE SUBJECT.
Printed on regular paper, either matt or glossy. Use
the type of paper best suited to your needs.
Note: It is possible to cross-process negative film
for slides by having negative film developed in E-6 slide chemistry. .
Negative film will create mages with one dominate color. |
